Billy Graham's son Franklin questions Obama's Christianity

church

The Rev. Franklin Graham today joined a list of right-wingers who have questioned President Obama's faith. Graham is the son of evangelist Billy Graham.

Appearing on the "Morning Joe" program, he repeatedly said, "Ask President Obama" when asked whether the U.S. president is a Christian. However Graham quickly answered, "Yes" when questioned if Rick Sanatorium or Newt Gingrich were Christians.

Graham then went on to say, "All I know is that Obama is more concerned about the Muslims than all the Christians being killed in Muslim countries."

GOP candidate Rick Sanatorium also questioned the president's Christian values recently. "Rick Santorum told voters recently that President Obama adheres to ‘some phony theology. Not a theology based on the Bible.'"

An aide to Sanatorium recently claimed President Obama is following "radical Islamic policies." The aide, Alice Stewart, later retracted the statement.

The GOP is clearly injecting race and hatred into the campaign. Write or call Rev. Franklin Graham and tell him this racial bigotry must end! He can be reached at:

  • Graham, Santorum, etc. are strongly implying that only a Christian can hold office, thus there's a stench of attempts to promote a theocracy. The Medieval-like mentality is all too apparent among Righties. And the crusade-like allusions of Obama supporting "radical Islamic policies" is based on what? The simple fact that Obama's middle name is Hussein? If so, what an absurd & infantile association.

The previous poster's quotes of the U.S. constitution make it obviously clear that religion is not to determine qualifications of holding office, or to determine goverment policy itself for that matter. But leave it to Righties to cling to an outlook that existed even before the Magna Carta.

  • Frankly, who cares! Indeed, I would prefer an atheist, or even agnostic, over a "Christian" or Christian, or adherent of any other religion, mythology or metaphysics, any day.

  • Can there be any doubt that religion is, along with race, one of the most divisive forces in the world today?

Who is Franklin Graham to make the lofty pronouncements that Santorum and Gingrich are Christians but that he doubts the President's faith? Can he somehow see into the minds and hearts of people? Sounds like hoakum to me.

The solution of course will never happen. That solution is the complete elimination of religion in the world. Marx had it right--religion is the opiate of the masses.

  • Per the Constitution of the United States of America:
Article Six: The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
The Second Amendment states: ““Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”.
